Spend just a small amount of time in solitude,
and you'll forget that anyone else exists.
You start doing things you don't normally do,
like making weird mouth-noises
and having conversations with yourself.

Spend enough time alone and you'll feel
like you'll never see another face again.
Maybe your heart will race, or
your legs will get restless,
but you'll definitely be afraid.

Spend time with yourself--lots of it--
and you'll have three paintings
laying across your floor.
You'll have a notebook full of music,
and you'll have knit five scarves.

Spend too much time with nobody around,
and everything you see will be
some sort of weapon.
Every sharp edge or corner
stands out unmistakably.
